Last Saturday, 11/1, Hildale Park Presbyterian Church hosted a drive-thru food drive. The date had been planned for months, far in advance of any inkling we might have had about the government shutdown and the potential disruption of SNAP benefits, which would reportedly affect 17,000 citizens in Morris County, including 6,000 minor children and 5,000 seniors.
The providential timing may have stirred the incredible response we had from all of you, which exceeded the largest food drive our church has EVER conducted by exactly one pound. A stream of cars came through that morning and afternoon, contributing a staggering 838lbs of food (enough to fill a pickup truck and a large sedan to the brim, including the cabins), while the United Presbyterian Women and several individual donors combined to contribute $1,920 in checks and cash to Interfaith. The food and checks were dropped off on Tuesday. I am overwhelmed, and I know the folks at interfaith were incredibly grateful as well. We pray that this generous spirit will continue in the face of the mounting need in our neighborhoods. Our congregation is still striving to meet its goal of contributing 2,025lbs of food to Interfaith by December 31st, and we hope that residents of Hanover and surrounding towns will continue to support vital ministries for the food-insecure in our community. Thank you! Rev. Lang and Jonathan Cooke deliver 984lbs of food donated in six hours during a drive-thru food drive in 2022
